Magnetic Particle Testing or Magnetic particle Inspection as conventionally called as Crack Detection, Magnetic flux testing, MPT or MPI testing is one of the most widely used Nondestructive testing NDT method to find surface and subsurface(beneath the surface) flaws using Magnetic flux leakage principle to inspect Ingots, Castings, forgings, rolled plates, sheets, bars, rods, weld joints, shafts, gears, and other engineering components in cast, forged, machined condition, during manufacturing and in-service inspections. In fact MPI testing is the most widely used testing method in any ferrous, steel manufacturing, processing industry.

MT Inspection Capabilities

Bench type Wet Stationery Head shot, Coil shot, Central conductor MPI Equipments are used for testing Aerospace and Automotive components at AtoZ NDT Labs. Prod Type, magnetic particle inspection AC/DC Yoke type and Permanent magnet type techniques are suitable for onsite MPT testing of structures, pressure vessels, Boiler components, weld joints and large castings which cannot be moved inside the labs.

AtoZ NDT MPI testing equipments are PLC controlled and designed to meet Aerospace NDT requirements as per ASTM E 1444 using AC, HWDC & FWDC currents. Equipment is suitable for testing mass production components with great accuracy and repeatability of test results and can produce more than 6000 Amps of current to inspect large components such as Shafts, Hydraulic pistons and machined components.

Magnetic Particle Inspection Applications

Magnetic particle testing or inspection (MT or MPI testing) is used for quality control and materials testing in all major industries. This includes Magnetic particle testing of castings, forgings, plates, extruded components, weld joints, electrical and electronic component manufacturing, production of steel, pressure vessels, ships, bridges, motor vehicles, machinery and jet engines. In service MPI testing for preventive maintenance is used for detecting impending failure of rail road rolling stock axles, press columns, earth-moving equipment, mill rolls, mining equipment and other machines and components. The flaws to be detected include cracks, inclusions, pipe, laminations, bursts and flakes. They may be inherent in the raw materials, may result from fabrication and heat treatment, or may occur in service from fatigue, corrosion or other causes. MPI testing effective in detecting fatigue cracks during in-service maintenance inspection of power plants, cement plants, sugar plants, petroleum refinery machinery components and structures
